Local Swimwear Must-Haves

Because there’s never a bad time to be buying swim

by | Apr 16, 2018 | Style

We’ve well and truly begun our descent into Autumn, but let’s face it: if you live in Australia, we all know there’s a few more opportunities to enjoy beach weather. And after that – well, it’ll be Summer in Europe! Which means, really, there’s never a bad time to invest in good swimwear. And there’s never been a better time to be looking, either. We’re spoiled for choice by local brands that are offering quality swimwear for women of all shapes and sizes.

Gone are the days where brands offered only one style of one piece and bikini each – today we don’t just have plenty of choice of cut, but mixing and matching tops and bottoms is also often an option. Brands are realising what everyone has known all along: we are the ones who know our bodies best. So classic cuts reign supreme, making way for patterns to emerge as an option next to your trusted block colours to keep things interesting. These are a few of our favourite local labels putting out swimwear that keeps us going back for more.

MATTEAU

The lovechild of Australian stylist Ilona Hamer and her sister Peta Heinsen, Matteau’s ethos is simple: timeless luxury pieces that transcend trends. Every modern woman needs to have the basic essentials in her wardrobe and there’s no better place than Matteau when it comes to swimwear. With fans such as Pheobe Tonkin, the label has become synonymous with quality minimalist styles that will stand the test of time. We suggest picking up one of the black sets and then building your collection from there.

LONELY

For something a little less minimal is New Zealand brand Lonely. Born out of a desire to celebrate the individuality and strength of women, Lonely creates swimwear that prioritises your comfort while always trying to ensure the silhouettes are flattering and designs are fun. Founded on an ethos of body positivity, the label is committed to making swimwear for all women and so is a fantastic option if you’re looking for a brand that caters to all shapes and sizes.

TWOSIX SWIM

Before discovering twosix, I had not bought a bikini in over 8 years. Convinced that bikinis weren’t suited to my bigger bust size, I had all but given up. Until, I discovered twosix, simple in design, the pieces only come in a select range of colours but you can mix and match styles to suit your taste. They’re flattering and incredibly comfortable, a staple of anyone’s swimsuit wardrobe that seeks to invest in timeless silhouettes and pieces that will have you dancing on the beach with not a care in the world.

SHE MADE ME

If you’re looking for a swimsuit that makes you feel like you’re wearing something truly special, look no further than She Made Me. The brainchild of Chloe Dunlop, the brand specialises in delicate, handmade crocheted pieces that will have everyone from Bondi to Byron swooning. The artisan designs are a celebration of authentic craftsmanship and the heritage tradition of crochet. You’ll never feel fearful of having someone else on the beach wearing your swimsuit as these are truly one-of-a-kind pieces you’ll be treasuring for years to come.
