Do The Polka

Chances are you need more polka dots in your life. Am I right?

This year, I was lucky to spend some time in LA, just as their Summer was drawing to a close. It was during one of my free afternoons, where, iced latte in hand, as I was strolling along Melrose, that I came upon Reformation’s new-look store. Housed in a much larger space, and with a very on-trend fit out, the store features display garments alongside screens from which you can view the latest arrivals. Perfect for seeing things on the rack and on the body at the same time, before having your selections brought directly to the fitting room. I told myself I wasn’t going to buy anything (hello overweight luggage :/ ), but the sexy mood light lighting (v flattering) and the customisable music (you can plug in your phone to listen to your favourite playlists while you shop) in the change room meant otherwise. Man those polka dots looked good.

I definitely like to think I don’t fall for trends, but every now and then, there will be something that undoes all my good intentions. This particular season, it was the polka dots. Hands down. I had seen them on Instagram courtesy of Réalisation Par’s ‘Dreamgirls’, on the streets of Paris in summer-time, and on the cool girls getting their caffeine fix at Venice cafes. I couldn’t escape them, and it only made me want them more.
The verdict? This polka dot blouse from Reformation ended up making it’s way home with me, and I have my eye on a few other pieces too. After all, we’re now only a week away from an Aussie summer, and polka-dots (along with stripes) are the minimalists go-to when it comes to experimenting with print. See a few other favourites on my lust list below… Happy shopping!
